Andy Serwer in the age of social media

Andy Serwer, Managing Editor of Fortune Magazine, has been arguing or thinking aloud about the change including the one in media industry.  In the current issue of Fortune, he is discussing the issue again over the tie issue. He says wearing the tie is old school which is true.
One sentence about Brooks Brothers is a good lead for chasing the company, recently introducing itself to Turkey with Koc Group and it again is a tie story.
The tie equation in Turkey is as far as I can see, is a trend set by the bosses rather than the professionals and is more significant in those who ascend to new positions like angel investor. I believe the feeling is what my late father expressed as giving up the "halter of civilization". Wearing the tie for 23.5 years, he did not put it on again after he retired. It might be a quest to communicate with his children who gave up the tie afer highschool.
Talking to Michael Dell in Texas saying that he privatised his company to be sincere with people without the pressure of investors, the tie-less figure pictured the search for independence and freedom on my mind which also covers access.
That brings us to a big dilemma with Serwer's column. Googleing the aricle with the header "The tie is so old school" you can find it on CNNMoney; but only the beginning where you can actually get the data on tie sales. But the impressing part or let me put it like this the sensational part which suits social media is not public and subscription is required. http://money.cnn.com/2014/02/27/leadership/tie-old-school.pr.fortune/
The remaining part of the article is actually the part to socialize Serwer with his counterparts or peers and it is not free in the age of social media. It is like you can get the data on climate change for free while you have to pay for the testimonies of people who say they have headache. The men with no-tie don't think this is true.
The main problem with the new age is that we no longer can evaluate and which is crucial is not the valuable thing but the thing that people will pay for. They will either appreciate them as your leader and pay to be a part of the crowd- (sourcing, funding, etc.scheme) or you will become a follower who is not paid.
The details become more important than ever and I am unhappy that I could not share Serwer's article or opinion as to have a basis for my own impessions to be better comprehended.
